A man who handed a note warning a garage cashier he had a gun has been jailed.
Paul Dunn, 45, walked into Murco, on Traffic Street, Derby on March 27.
After handing over the note, which demanded cash, two other men walked in and Dunn tried to force them to leave.
While he was distracted the cashier ran into the office and Dunn left the shop empty-handed.
The two customers then tackled him to the floor and detained him until police arrived.
He was later charged with attempted robbery.
Dunn, of no fixed abode, admitted the offence and was jailed for two years. He was also ordered to pay £100 victim surcharge when he appeared at Derby Crown Court.
The two members of the public who intervened were awarded £250 each for their actions.
