A MAN who was trampled by "stampeding cows" in Ashbourne has died.
Peter Jakeman, 62, was airlifted to hospital following the incident yesterday.
Mr Jakeman, of Liskard Road, Callington Cornwall, was in the field off the A52 Leek Road when the incident occurred at about 9am.
The Air Ambulance was called and paramedics treated him at the scene for blood loss and chest injuries.
Mr Jakeman was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire where he died later that morning.
The death is not being treated as suspicious and inquiries are being overseen by the Health and Safety Executive.
