CONOR Sammon was delighted with his "scrappy" late winner for Derby County against Middlesbrough.
Sammon came off the bench to seal the Rams' 2-1 victory at Pride Park with a 90th-minute strike.
"I think scrappy is the word that describes it," said the striker.
"Jeff (Hendrick) played a really good ball in and Will Hughes got a great flick on it.
"You wouldn't expect him to be there but fair play to him and it put me through on goal.
"I only had eyes on the ball coming over my shoulder, ready to put my foot on it.
"Their defender (George Friend) made a last-ditch tackle and he was really unlucky that it came straight off me and looped over the goalkeeper (Shay Given).
"But from our point of view, we were delighted and I was delighted to get the winner."
Chris Martin put Derby ahead on the stroke of half-time, after Boro striker Curtis Main had been sent off for a second bookable offence in only the 34rd minute.
Dean Whitehead put the 10 men level in the 74th minute, prompting Rams head coach McClaren to bring on Johnny Russell and Sammon.
"When I went on and we had two up front, it would have been easy to just launch the ball forward but we kept patient, kept passing it and trying to create openings," Sammon added.
"It probably didn't look like we were going to get that winner but we did and credit to the boys for keeping going.
"It was a big win for us and it's really pleasing to be a part of it."
