THE crew of Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance were called to rescue a walker who suffered a suspected heart attack. They had received a call for the 57-year-old man who collapsed near the tip of Kinder Scout yesterday at 1pm. He had been walking with friends when he began complaining of chest pains. A passing cardiologist helped out before the emergency services were called. Due to the steep terrain, one of the crew's paramedics had to get out of the air ambulance as it hovered before the pilot found an appropriate landing site. The patient was assessed for chest pains and then transferred to the nearest heart unit. He was given advanced pain relief and cardiac drugs before he was moved to the aircraft, with the assistance of Edale Mountain Rescue Team. He was then flown to Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester for further treatment. His current condition is unknown. A spokesman for DLRAA said: "We believe patients should be able to reach specialist treatment no matter where their incident happens. "The sooner they reach the most relevant hospital for their injuries the greater their chance of survival and recovery."
