Derbyshire's Chief Fire Officer, Sean Frayne, has pleaded not guilty to raping a woman seven years ago.
Frayne, 47, formerly of Etwall but now of Spinneyfield, Huddersfield, entered his not guilty plea at Derby Crown Court today.
It is alleged that he raped a woman in Etwall between November 30, 2006, and January 1, 2007.
His trial is due to start on November 10. It is expected to last for three days.
Frayne, who was dressed in a grey suit, a grey shirt and a dark-coloured tie spoke only to confirm his name and to deny the charge.
He was bailed on condition that he does not contact the complainant, or another named person.
