THE M1 northbound has reopened between junction 29 and junction 30 following a two-lorry crash.
The Highways Agency has warned motorists that there are long delays on the northbound approach to junction 29.
But the agency says normal traffic conditions are expected from 4.30pm.
Update 3:35am: There are currently delays of 40 minutes on the northbound approach.
According to police a lorry had broken down in the early hours of the morning and while the driver was on the phone to the police, to advise them of his situation, he was struck by the other vehicle.
The driver of the stationary lorry was unhurt.
The driver of the second vehicle was trapped in his cab before being freed by firefighters and being taken to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield where he is in a critical condition.
The incident happened at 3.41am in the area of ongoing roadworks.
