A RESTAURANT thanked its customers for their loyalty by offering them a free meal.
More than 600 diners at The Raj Restaurant, in Allestree, ate for nothing last night and the previous Sunday.
Manager Freddy Ahmed said he wanted to thank the local community after they persuaded the building's owners to keep it as an Indian restaurant.
The owners, Midlands Co-operative, had planned to convert it into a shop but backed down after more than 4,000 people signed petitions against the move.
Mr Ahmed said: "We wanted to say thank-you to the local community.
"The restaurant has been chock-a-block. We've done 300 free meals this weekend and 300 last weekend."
