RAIDERS used a pick axe to break into a launderette before smashing open two machines to steal cash.
The burglary happened overnight between Wednesday and yesterday when workers arrived to find the damage.
A police spokesman said the crime took place at the launderette, in Nottingham Road, Ripley.
He said: "They have used a pick axe to smash a hole in the back door to gain entry.
"Once inside they smashed two machines and forced open the coin trays.
"They got money from one of the dryers but the other machine takes tokens and not currency."
Anyone with information should call 101.
