A 71-YEAR-OLD Derbyshire woman had cash and jewellery stolen from her by two distraction burglars.
The victim answered the door to her home, in High Street, Newhall, to be confronted by a man who asked if he could be allowed through to her back garden as he was doing work for a neighbour and needed access.
The woman was suspicious and said he would have to get there through a side gate rather than through the front door but agreed to meet him at the back door.
Moments later she went out to the garden to talk to the man but left her front door unlocked.
She went back inside her home to find a second man walking down her stairs.
He told her he had used the toilet and she asked him to leave which he did, along with the first man.
The victim then went upstairs to discover that cash and the jewellery was gone.
She rang her son who called police to investigate.
The incident happened at 1.30pm on Wednesday and the woman said both men were white, in their 30s and around 5ft 10ins tall.
The man she spoke to at the front door was of stocky build wearing a dark wooly hat and a dark puffer jacket.
