CHILDREN are being encouraged to read up to six books over the summer holidays.
The Summer Reading Challenge is being organised by Derbyshire County Council to encourage children to use their local library.
Last year, 10,000 youngsters in the county signed up to the challenge.
The theme for this year's challenge is 'mythical Maze'.
In addition to the books, there will be storytelling, dance and craft activities.
Councillor Ellie Wilcox, deputy cabinet member for health and communities, said she hoped interest would be just as strong this summer.
She said: "The Summer Reading Challenge is a great way of encouraging young people to maintain and develop their reading skills while they're not at school."
Those who complete the challenge earn a medal and a certificate.
The challenge will be launched on July 11.
