Thousands of people lined the streets to show their appreciation for officers on their return to Derby, writes Chris Peddy.
The march of the 9th/12th Royal Lancers - which included two tanks - met with rousing applause and cheers in the packed city centre.
Bernard Page, chairman of the Derby and District Ex-Services Association, said it was great to see such a turnout for the parade.
He said: "We are right to recognise what these young lads have done over the last couple of years.
"That is why we are here, to say thank you for what you have accomplished and it's good to see you back."
The officers were earlier welcomed to a reception inside Derby Cathedral, where they were told that their work had been great appreciated by the church.
The 9th/12th Royal Lancers will soon be amalgamated with their sister regiment.
Ex-officer Peter Casey said the event was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the homecoming to everyone who has served in the regiment - based in Germany.
He added: "For me, these guys have all come home safe and that is what is important.
"Today is an opportunity to give them the thanks they deserve."
