Police say that a serious head injury suffered by a motorist after a collision in Allestree is understood to be not life-threatening or life-changing.
Fire crews from Kingsway and Duffield cut three people free from the wreckage of the two vehicles following the head-on collision, which happened on the A6 close to the Palm Court island just after 2am on Saturday.
A Derbyshire police spokesman said: "One person was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre [in Nottingham] with a serious head injury but it is understood it is not life-threatening or life-changing and that he is able to converse with police and hospital staff."
It is believed the two other people suffered minor injuries.
