DERBY'S German envoy has hailed her football team's sensational 7-1 beating of Brazil in the World Cup as "unbelievable".

Kai Nobbe said she was left "stunned" as she watched her country obliterate the host nation and reach Sunday's World Cup final in South America.

And she said she remains "cautiously optimistic" as to whether Joachim Low's men will go all the way and lift the trophy in the famous Maracana Stadium on Sunday night.

The Germans stunned the football world on Tuesday night by blowing away the host nation, racing to a 5-0 lead at half-time.

TV pictures showed Brazilian fans sobbing in the stands as the tournament hosts bowed out to the might of the men in their unfamiliar black and red jerseys.

Kai, the Osnabruck envoy in Derby, said: "It was an unbelievable performance from Germany, simply amazing.

"I watched the match with a band from Osnabruck who have travelled over to perform at this week's beer festival and we couldn't believe what we were seeing in front of our eyes. Germany were absolutely brilliant and as bad as the Brazil defence was, I don't think you can take anything away from how well we played.

"I was left stunned by the result, we all were, but the feeling was incredible."

Thomas Muller's opener was the first of five German goals in 18 first-half minutes that left Luiz Felipe Scolari's team shell-shocked at half-time.

First-half strikes by Miroslav Klose and Sami Khedira sandwiched a Toni Kroos double, before a second-half double from Chelsea's Andre Schürrle completed Brazil's humiliation. Kai said: "I watched the game in the Walkabout because it has a big screen and it was packed with people.

"The atmosphere was great and although many people were supporting Brazil, by the end of the match many of them were cheering the Germans. After the last two World Cups I don't think any German fan will tell you they think we will go on and lift the trophy.

"But I'm cautiously optimistic as things stand."

Brazil manager Scolari called the 7-1 thrashing "the worst day'' of his life, and said he took responsibility for the defeat. He said: "I will be remembered as the coach to lose 7-1 but I knew that risk when I took the job.''

Kai said she is due to travel to London this weekend to see friends, but had changed her train back so she got to Derby early enough to return to the Walkabout to watch the final.

She said: "I can't wait, it's going to be a great game."
