NEW boss Alan Irvine wants Derby County transfer target George Thorne to stay at West Bromwich Albion.

Irvine has said the 21-year-old midfielder is a part of Albion's plans for the new season.

Thorne enjoyed a loan spell at Derby last season and the Rams are keen to sign him.

They have had two bids rejected, while Thorne's two transfer requests have both been turned down.

He is in pre-season training at Albion and has met Irvine to discuss the situation.

Irvine described the talks as "amicable".

He said: "George and Craig Dawson are very much players in my thoughts.

"I had long discussions with both of them and they were good, amicable talks.

"They know the situation and have continued to work hard in training. They are very much part of our squad right now.

"If they were to go, we would need to find replacements but I don't want either player to go.

"Obviously, if a club comes in with an offer we think would be good enough, the player could go but we haven't had a single offer we deem to be good enough right now."

Derby's second offer for Thorne was £1.5m rising to £2m with add-ons.
