MEL Ashley is feeling the cold after shaving off her 50cm-long dreadlocks for charity.

The 24-year-old was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and secondary cancer in her lymph nodes in 2008.

She said: "I was really lucky and always looked really well when I was ill. I never lost my hair either. So many people lose their hair when they have cancer.

"I thought now was the right time to get rid of my hair because I've been so lucky and I wanted to know what it was like."

Mel, who lives in the city centre, and her friend, Eddie Willers, have together raised more than £350 for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

Eddie's father and brother have both been affected by cancer.
