DERBY County head coach Steve McClaren was impressed with new signing Cyrus Christie against Notts County and has not ruled out following up interest in another right-back, Allasane Toure.

Christie pulled on a Rams shirt for the first time in Saturday's friendly at Meadow Lane following his move from Coventry City.

The 21-year-old right-back made a positive impact including a blistering run in only the second minute when he set up a chance for striker Chris Martin.

"Cyrus did well in his first game," said McClaren after the 3-1 victory.

"He gave us close to an hour and fans seem to have taken to him," McClaren added.

"He is direct and quick, and if he keeps producing that then we have got a threat on the right as we have on the left with Craig Forsyth."

Christie was replaced by Toure after 52 minutes.

Toure is a 25-year-old defender who plays for French club RC Lens. He is a right-back or centre-back and helped his club win promotion from Ligue 2 last season.

McClaren says the player impressed in his two days with Derby.

Toure has not travelled with the squad to Austria. He flew back to France after the Notts game.

"He has got other options," said McClaren.

"We are very lucky we got him in for two days, credit to [head of football operations] Chris Evans for that.

"We had a good look at Allasane and we liked the boy. We will see if anything happens."

A back injury has forced defender Zak Whitbread to miss the tour to Austria.

"Zak took a bang in the back against Northampton Town and his back went into spasm," said McClaren.

"He will remain at the training ground recovering and will join the squad when we come back from Austria."

Young players Ivan Calero, Jamie Hanson and Max Lowe are with the squad in Austria.

Calero, a 19-year-old Spanish midfielder, signed last week and both Hanson and Lowe are products of the Academy.
