BOSSES at the Royal Derby Hospital say admissions to its accident and emergency department yesterday were not as high as feared.
The scorching weather and flash floods led to chiefs preparing for a record numbers of patients.
They warned people to drink plenty of water and apply sun tan lotion before stepping into the 24C heat.
People were asked not go to an A&E unless it was absolutely necessary.
Today, a hospital spokeswoman said people in Derby heeded that warning.
She said the 391 admissions fell comfortably short of the record 438 in March.
She said: "We are grateful for people having heeded the warnings to only come into A&E in a genuine emergency."
