A PARISH council has criticised three district councillors after a controversial planning application was approved.
Villagers in Aston on Trent fear Richmond Villages' proposals to build 74 homes on the former Aston Hall hospital site will place a burden of the area's infrastructure.
But South Derbyshire District Council's planning committee has approved the plans, which has led Aston on Trent Parish Council to issue a vote of no confidence in the area's three district councillors.
Haydn Wheeler, chairman of Aston on Trent Parish Council, says it was issued because it is believed councillors Ann Watson, Peter Watson and Neil Atkin had not been supportive of the fight against the plans.
He said: "There is a feeling of betrayal now and the feeling is why should we work with them.
"We will do our upmost to make their life awkward and they will not be made welcome at parish council meetings."
Fellow parish councillor Steve Graham, who was at the meeting when the vote of no confidence was issued, said: "We are very annoyed because we expected them to work with us.
"We think the plan is wrong because the roads in the village were not built for this number of homes.
"All of the local schools are oversubscribed and there will be pressure on the roads."
Planning permission for a retirement village on the hospital site has already been accepted. Work on 120 apartments, a swimming pool and library is expected to start at the end of the year. Mr Graham said the parish council was not opposed to this aspect of the development.
Councillor Atkin, who is not on the district council's planning committee, said he "strongly opposed" proposals for an additional 74 homes on the site.
He said: "Naturally, I regret the planning committee's decision.
"In my 11 years serving this ward I must point out that I have received many complaints regarding the safety, anti-social behaviour and untidiness of the site than any other issue in Aston ward itself."
Councillor Ann Watson, who is also not on the planning committee, said: "I'm disappointed at the decision and I understand residents' concerns.
"The vote of no confidence is negative because we should be working together."
Councillor Peter Watson, who is a member of the planning committee, was not available for comment.
