OINK, Derby's famous water buffalo, has died.
The daughter of owner Katherine Moore confirmed the news on Thursday afternoon.
She said the 22-year-old two-tonne animal - a popular figure and firm favourite with children and adults who visited him at his home in Darley Abbey - was suffering from illness.
She said: "We had to make the decision to have Oink put to sleep."
Oink became the subject of a legal ownership battle in 2010.
