£2,700 office swap for Derby City Council leader and chief executive

THE leader and deputy leader of Derby City Council have moved into the same Council House office at a cost of just over £2,700.

A council spokeswoman said this was because the leader, Councillor Ranjit Banwait, wanted to "shorten lines of communication" by sharing the room with his deputy, Councillor Martin Rawson.

She said this meant an office swap, with chief executive of the council Adam Wilkinson moving into the former leader's office in the building.

The spokeswoman said the former chief executive's office was the only one large enough to achieve Mr Banwait's aim.

She said: "The money was spent on new furniture to enable the office to be used by two people and on painting the walls."
