A WOMAN who died in a fatal M1 smash - despite two Derbyshire cricketers battling to save her life - has been named as Anne Pattrick. The 72-year-old was the passenger in a Ford Anglia which was involved in a four-car crash on the M1 motorway at junction 21a, close to the village of Kirby Muxloe, on Sunday. Cricketers David Wainwright and Mark Footitt were travelling to their Royal London One-Day Cup match against Leicester at Grace Road when the collision occurred. The pair covered Ms Pattrick, of Boston, Lincolnshire, with towels and called an ambulance but she was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash occurred just after 8am and involved a Scania LGV, Ford Anglia, Ford Ka and a Mazda MX5. The female driver of the Ford Anglia remains in a stable condition in the University Hospitals of Coventry. A 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and has since been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
