PAUL Simpson says Derby County will need to be on their toes for the final test of pre-season tomorrow.
The Rams face Rangers at the iPro Stadium (1pm).
Derby beat Burton Albion 1-0 at the Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday and Simpson wants the players to keep building a winning mentality.
"We knew Burton would be a tough test for us because they are a very hard-working side and difficult to beat," said the Rams coach.
"When Rangers come to town you know you are going to have to be on your toes. We need to be right."
Derby's starting XI is likely to be that which faces Rotherham United on the opening weekend of the Championship season, injuries and new arrivals permitting.
Ten players featured for the full game at Burton. The one question mark seems to be who will fill the holding role in midfield in the absence of the injured George Thorne.
John Eustace and Will Hughes each played in the role for 45 minutes at Burton.
Ally McCoist is happy with Rangers' preparations for the new season.
Rangers' season starts on Tuesday with a Petrofac Training Cup tie against Hibernian followed by their opening SPFL Championship fixture at home to Hearts on the Sunday.
McCoist's men have returned from a tour of the USA and Canada where they beat Sacramento Republic 2-1, Victoria Highlanders 2-1 and Ottawa Fury 1-0 and lost 3-1 to Ventura County Fusion.
Facing Derby is the next step in Rangers' build up.
"We are happy with where we are," said McCoist.
"The most important thing is that we are ready to peak at the right time and we're on course for that."
Rangers' squad includes ex-Derby striker Kenny Miller, who has rejoined the club for a third spell.
The 34-year-old Scottish international had been playing for Vancouver Whitecaps. He has also played for Cardiff City, Bursaspor, Celtic and Wolverhampton Wanderers in his career.
He spent one season at Derby, 2007-08, when the Rams endured an embarrassing Premier League campaign, winning only one of their 38 matches. Miller was top scorer with six goals in 33 games.
Midfielder Nicky Law, son of the Alfreton Town manager, is at Rangers. He started his career at Sheffield United and has also played for Rotherham United and Motherwell.
Rangers are now in the second tier of Scottish football, having won back-to-back promotions since the club went into liquidation and were demoted to the fourth tier.
