INDIVIDUAL tree plaques and small crosses have been placed in a new memorial meadow in Hilton today to mark the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War.
Hundreds of people took part in the open-air ceremony, including relatives of the 18 men who fell in the 1914-18 conflict, six from the Second World War and one soldier from the Falklands conflict who came from the Hilton, Hoon and Marston-on-Dove areas.
Also taking part were the Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire Willie Tucker and High Sheriff David Coleman.
