THE go-ahead has been given for a customer service firm set to create hundreds of jobs in the city to get council funding worth up to £750,000.

Pride Park-based Webhelp UK has a new deal to handle customer inquiries for communications firm EE.

The council has been told this will create at least 350 jobs and possibly a further 300 if the contract goes well.

The up-to-£750,000 will be available towards costs of fitting out the building, training, and recruitment.

It will come from the council's Regeneration Fund, set up to stimulate city centre development.

This was confirmed at a council cabinet meeting last night where council leader Ranjit Banwait said the authority would work with the firm to ensure as many jobs as possible go to "people who desperately need them". The Tories supported the plan.
