MARK Turner has become the latest Derbyshire player to leave the club.

After being told he would not be offered a new contract at the end of the season, Turner has taken the option to leave the 3aaa County Ground straight away and has joined Northamptonshire until the end of the campaign.

That gives him the opportunity to earn a longer stay. He may line up against Derbyshire in the Royal London One-Day Cup on Monday.

The 29-year-old bowler was in his fourth season with Derbyshire, having joined from Somerset, and could be devastatingly fast when he got it right but expensive when he didn't.

He took 43 wickets in 21 first-class matches for the county at an average of 44.25 and also played 19 List A one-day matches for 26 wickets plus 22 twenty20s which brought him 23 wickets.

This season, Turner played in the first two Championship fixtures but his first-team appearances since have been limited to the t20 and the three-day game against the Indians.

"It's sad to see Mark go because he's been a terrific character to have around and a really positive influence on the field and in the dressing room," said elite performance director Graeme Welch. "We wish him all the best."

Turner's departure means seven players who were members of the Derbyshire first-team squad at the start of the season have now gone.

Stephen Moore, Tim Groenewald, Richard Johnson, Paul Borrington and Peter Burgoyne have left for certain and it is uncertain whether Shivnarine Chanderpaul will be back next season as the club's overseas signing.
