Nine-year-old boy who died after falling into river at Tutbury named as Kai Lambe, of Hatton

A NINE-YEAR-OLD boy who died after falling into a weir has been named as Kai Lambe,

The youngster, of Heath Way, Hatton, died at Queen's Hospital, in Burton, on Friday night.

Emergency services were called to the weir, at Tutbury Mill, on the River Dove, at 6.15pm, after receiving a report that a boy had slipped into the water and got into difficulty.

In a short family statement the boy's parents said: "Kai was a happy, outgoing and lovely little boy."

A police spokesman said: "He was rescued from the water by colleagues from the fire service and taken to Queen's Hospital in Burton where he sadly died.

"His death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

"Specially trained officers are now supporting the boy's family and friends at this very difficult time.

"We are continuing to work with colleagues from the other emergency services to understand the exact circumstances of what happened."
