THE driver of a car which smashed into a Burton house last night fled the scene shortly afterwards, according to witnesses. They said the vehicle crashed into the wall of the property, causing bricks to smash a downstairs bedroom window. An elderly man inside the house at the time escaped injury but concerned neighbours said he was left shaken. The car, a silver Vauxhall Vectra, had one person inside and was travelling south along Shobnall Street towards Shobnall Road. Police are now investigating the incident, which happened at about 5.50pm. A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "It's a single-vehicle road traffic accident, where a vehicle collided with a brick wall at that address. "The wall has then fallen onto the house ,causing minor structural damage. There is no major structural damage to the premises. We are appealing for any information and would like witnesses to contact us using the 101 number. "In relation to the driver that made off, inquires are still on-going to locate that driver and we would appeal for any information."
