DONATIONS made at the funeral of murdered Derbyshire medical student Neil Dalton will go towards stem-cell research.

Neil's funeral will take place tomorrow at St Peter's Church in Belper.

The vicar conducting the service for the 22-year-old revealed that the tragic student was on the stem-cell register for the Anthony Nolan Trust.

The Rev Anne Stratton said this showed Neil, from Ambergate, "cared immensely for people".

"Even through death, that's what he would have wanted. There will be a significant number of donations" said the minister.

The funeral will start at 1.30pm and is being held before a private ceremony at Belper Cemetery.

She said around 350 people had attended the funeral of Aidan Brunger, a medical student and friend of Neil, who was laid to rest last Friday in Kent.

The trainee doctors were both on a six-week attachment at a hospital in Borneo. They were killed on the street following a row in a bar.

She said: "I think there will be 500 people for Neil because he was a part of many activities and was very popular.

"My suspicion is we will have 500 because of how respected he was. It will be one of the biggest funerals I have done.

"It's always very distressing. Neil had a lot more to live for.

"My job on the day is to is to promote hope and emphasise no life is wasted and that people can make a difference."

She said two of Neil's friends would make eulogies. The funeral will be opened with the song The Cave, by Mumford and Sons.

During the service the congregation will listen to Hoppipolla, by Sigur Ros, and will depart the church to the Gladiator soundtrack, Now We Are Free.

Twenty-three-year-old Zul-kipli Abdullah has been charged with the murder of the two students.

It has been reported that four other suspects have not been charged, but will appear in court as witnesses.

Abdullah is a Malaysian fishmonger.
