MUSIC and dance have marked the completion of a £1 million revamp of part of Derby city centre.
The work at the junction of St Peter's Churchyard, East Street, and St Peter's Street, was organised by Derby City Council - together with the St Peter's Quarter Business Improvement District.
The aim of the revamp was to create a performance space for entertainment, with new seating and lighting. St Peter's Church has been cleaned and new lighting installed to "enhance its architecture".
To mark the work done to the area, called St Peter's Cross, local performers were invited to entertain shoppers on Saturday afternoon . Some acts performed in other areas of St Peter's Quarter – including near the Ram, outside the HSBC branch and at the Riverlights development.
Stephen Jeffery, chairman of St Peters Quarter Board - who cut a ribbon to mark the opening with councillor Martin Rawson, cabinet member for environment, planning and regeneration - said: "The completion of work is a real cause for celebration in this area.
"We have been working closely with Derby City Council to bring St Peter's Cross to the top of the regeneration agenda and are delighted with the results."
