iOS 8 bugs - Apple's awful fortnight

DESPITE the apparent success of the iPhone 6, Apple has had one of its worst two weeks in its history. Here's what went wrong.

First there was the leaked celebrity nudes scandal, as hackers from the websites 4chan and Reddit managed to hack into the iCloud servers, and get whatever they wanted from people's backed up photos – most notably the nude photos of around 30 celebrities, including Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence.

Secondly, the gift that was rejected by millions of iPhone users all over the world, as Apple decided to give over 500 million iPhone users U2's album 'Songs of Innocence'.

But there seemed to be one problem with it, in that every user had it downloaded to their phone, whether they wanted it or not, causing a massive backlash on social media.

Some users even confused the album for a virus and Apple ended up had to release a tool to allow users to delete the album from their device for good.

Next, despite the success of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, Apple's share prices plummeted after the announcement of the Apple Watch – people just don't seem to like the concept of it. Rivals Samsung had already beaten Apple to the concept with their 'Pebble' wearable device, even though we always thought Apple would be the first one there.

And to add insult to injury, Samsung also released a string of videos mocking Apple and their new releases – here's my personal favourite:

Now, the latest issue for the brand's users is the new iOS 8 update.

Downloading the software update is proving an issue for many users, with the huge 4.6GB file size, users of 16GB models are finding it tough to find space for the download.

And the installer instead decides to delete user data without permission, leaving users annoyed once they find their photos missing. We wrote an article on that issue and how to fix it here. Other bugs also include one with some packages used by app developers, which is preventing them from being able to bug test their own apps.

So it could be a while before iOS 8 sees any third-party apps. Bugs have also been found with Dropbox and apps are apparently taking up to 50% longer to load.

Hopefully these issues will all be sorted soon, but Apple is going to have a tough time recovering from this fortnight from hell.
