A DERBYSHIRE man said he was shocked at how lenient border control checks were after he discovered an illegal immigrant under his motorhome.
Paul Coles found the man when he was in the UK and had returned from Calais.
It is thought the man tied himself to the vehicle before it entered the Channel Tunnel.
As Mr Coles unloaded his daughter's motorcycles, he discovered the young man - who spoke no English - underneath the vehicle.
The discovery was made as Mr Coles dropped off the hired motorhome with its owner on Monday afternoon.
He said officers from Kent Police arrived and searched the man before he was taken away in tears.
The 50-year-old, of Middleton-by-Wirksworth, was travelling back from Andorra. He said: "The motorhome went through a big radar but it was rushed and it was not strict at all.
"I was very surprised and shocked at how easy it was.
"Previously, they have been very strict and they have been in the van and searched. But this was the opposite. The checks were very lenient when we boarded the Channel Tunnel and in England.
"Even when I had put a full tank of petrol in, I could not hear anything.
"When I found him, it was the most shocking moment of my life."
