Boy in Derby car crash will be okay – despite police fearing for his life

POLICE have confirmed a 10-year-old who was hit by a car in Derby will be okay, after they feared for his life.

The schoolboy was involved in a collision with a Toyota Avensis, in St Thomas road, at about 3.30pm today.

The Pear Tree Community Junior School pupil was knocked unconscious by the private car, leading officers to think he had suffered life-threatening injuries and he was taken to the Royal Derby Hospital.

But on assessment at the hospital, it was confirmed that he would okay.

A spokesman said: "His condition was initially thought to be life-threatening.

"He was unconscious when officers arrived at the scene.

"But the last assessment from the officer at the hospital said that he is going to be fine."
