THE eagerly-awaited return of Derby's Cattle Market Sunday car boot sale should take place on Sunday.
Originally it was thought the event would return last Sunday - but negotiations with a contractor to run the event were not completed in time.
It will be more than three months since the popular car boot sale was closed suddenly, with Derby City Council blaming staff at the event for "choosing not to carry on with their jobs".
Deputy council leader Martin Rawson said: "I am delighted that the car boot sale is reopening this Sunday. We have received inquiries asking us when the sales would start up again and we know that they are always very well attended. I'd like to thank people for being so patient in the meantime."
David Ward, landlord of the Meadows Inn, Chequers Road, next to where the sales are held: "I am really pleased the car boot sale will be opening again this weekend and I'm looking forward to welcoming back our customers."
An agreement has been reached for events management company, Showsec, to manage the car boot sale on behalf of the council. This is an interim arrangement to allow the car boot sales to reopen as soon as possible.
