A COUPLE have been handed jail terms after breaching a court order banning them from having pets.
Police carried out a search warrant at the home of Peter and Shirley Chapman and found two dogs and a cat at the address.
The pair, of Oliver Road, Ilkeston, had previously been jailed and banned for life from keeping animals after pleading guilty to seven animal cruelty charges in June 2012.
They were arrested on suspicion of breaching an animal disqualification order after the animals were found during the warrant, on October 15.
Peter Chapman, 55, and Shirley Chapman, 53, admitted breaching the banning order at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court on Thursday, November 18.
They have both been sentenced to 13 weeks in prison.
Officers from Safer Neighbourhood teams in the area carried out the warrant under the Animal Welfare Act.
The animals were taken by RSPCA volunteers to be checked and will now be rehomed.
