BIRMINGHAM City have approached Burton Albion for permission to speak to Gary Rowett according to reports in the West Midlands.
The struggling Championship club have put together a panel to identify the right man to succeed Lee Clark as manager, with Mike Phelan and Owen Coyle also in the frame.
Already MK Dons have already turned down a request from the St Andrew's club to talk to their manager, Karl Robinson.
Birmingham are to make inquiries about the availability of other managers, as well as set up interviews for those currently without a club.
They have set up panel made up of two members of club staff and two independent advisers with a football background/expertise.
Blues executive director Panos Pavlakis will oversee the search.
