VISITORS and staff at the Royal Derby Hospital are being offered cheaper car parking between 5pm and 8am.
The new overnight parking rate of £2 is available for staff who work through the night and other car park users who may need to visit the hospital during the hours of darkness.
Paul Brooks, Derby Hospitals associate director of facilities, said: "We know staff have concerns about where to safely park their car overnight and we've heard what's been said and we've come up with an innovative solution."
The suggestion of a new special overnight parking rate came from car park manager Melanie Ray.
She said: "It's really important for the hundreds of people who work through the night across the hospital that they can park safely and this message has come back loud and clear from our car park teams who've been out on the wards talking to our staff to find out what we can do to help them as they go about their jobs caring for patients."
A £2 overnight on-site parking rate now applies from 5pm to 8am.
This is in addition to the existing £1 flat rate for visitors who use on-site car parks at the Royal Derby site between 5pm and 9pm each evening.
