ALFRETON Town manager Nicky Law has signed former Derry City skipper Cliff Byrne on non contract terms.
Byrne, started his youth career at Sunderland in 1999 and was loaned out to Scunthorpe United to gain first-team experience.
He moved on to Oldham Athletic a couple of years later before a short spell on loan back at Scunthorpe.
In 2014, new Derry City manager Roddy Collins, who had previously tried to sign Byrne in his younger days, finally got his man.
Byrne has appeared at under-21 level for the Republic of Ireland and has a UEFA B coaching licence which he gained in 2005. He had made 21 appearances for Derry this season but, in September, was released by mutual consent after suffering an injury that he is only just overcoming.
Meanwhile, the Reds have extended the loan of central defender Tom Davies from Sky Bet League One club Fleetwood Town until December 13.
Fleetwood have also given permission for Davies to play in the FA Trophy and Derbyshire Senior Cup third round tie against South Normanton Athletic on Tuesday, November 25 during his stay at the Impact Arena.
