ALFRETON Town manager Nicky Law believed his side paid the price for failing to make the most of the time they were on top in their defeat by Dover Athletic.
But he was also unhappy with his defence as the Reds lost 3-1.
"We have come in at half-time and the game should be over," he said. "We should be 3-1 up. You can't miss chances like that.
"We spoke about what we need – keep the tempo up, keep doing the right things, be aware of where they (Dover) may capitalise – and we have conceded two goals from exactly what we spoke about at half-time, their wide men getting inside our full-backs.
"Other than tell people where things are going to happen, if they can't carry those instructions out there is not a great deal you can do.
"You won't win games of football at any level let alone this level conceding goals like that.
"We have completely self-inflicted today. They haven't won that game, we have thrown that game away."
Law was especially frustrated at his side conceding three goals following two successive clean sheets.
"We spoke at half-time. Their threat in the first 10 minutes was a ball up to the lone striker, or the flick on to Deverdics or Tom Murphy on the other side who were making runs inside the full-backs.
"That was the danger.
"We solved that and then we said at half-time, the only danger is the ball up and the wide men getting inside. They have scored two goals from it.
"The third goal is from our centre forward who has got possession, unopposed, on the halfway line.
"If they (the players) can't take instructions on and carry them out, you are in trouble."
