A COUNCIL is launching a new campaign to clamp down on dog fouling.
South Derbyshire District Council has created what it is calling the Green Dog Walkers Pledge.
By signing it, owners will make a commitment to protecting the environment by promising to clean up after their pets.
This is said to encourage others to do the same and to provide other owners with bags to clear it up.
The authority's safer neighbourhood wardens will be handing out green leads and collars for dogs to wear during walks.
Councillor Peter Watson, chairman of environmental and development services at the council, said: "It has been proven that one of the biggest influences in getting irresponsible dog owners to pick up is when they are in the presence of other people.
"Green dog walkers greatly increase the effect of this influence, so just by signing up and wearing the branding people will be directly contributing to a cleaner and safer South Derbyshire."
The first opportunity to sign up to the pledge will be at Swadlincote's Eureka Park on Thursday, November 27.
