Tragic Littleover schoolgirl Franchesca Pawson died after suffering a very rare infection, tests have suggested.
The 12-year-old suffered an infection which spread into her blood stream, investigations appear to show.
The provisional cause of death was septic shock due to consolidation of the right lung, an initial probe has found.
Medical experts say this is a condition which was very common 100 years ago, but which is now almost unheard of in the modern age of antibiotics.
The investigation said she died at the Royal Derby Hospital on Tuesday.
The Rev Graham Watkins, a director of Derby City Mission, who is a friend of the family, said Franchesca had suffered from an illness.
The investigation also found that George Watson died at the Royal Derby Hospital on Tuesday.
George, of Whitaker Road, Littleover, was a former pupil at Littleover Community School.
A spokeswoman for the coroner's said further tests would have to be undertaken to determine his provisional cause of death.
