A MAN ran on to the pitch at the iPro Stadium and started swinging punches at Nottingham Forest players. An eye witness said the man was believed to have come from the South Stand and it appeared as if he had tried to attack the players as they celebrated their 2-1 win against Derby County. A 23-year-old man from Derby has been arrested in connection with the incident and police also confirmed that cars and a bus were damaged in the East car park near the ground. The eye-witness said: "A man came from behind the goal and it looked as though he was trying to punch Forest players who, along with stewards, were able to bundle him to the ground." Superintendent Gary Parkin was the match commander for Derbyshire Police for the game, which Nottingham Forest won 2-1 with an injury time winner from Ben Osborne. He said: "At the end of the match there were some tensions at the south end of the stadium where the Derby County and Nottingham Forest fans meet. "One man walked on to the pitch from the Derby end and appeared to come into contact with the Nottingham Forest defender Kelvin Wilson. "That man, who is 23 and from Derby, has been arrested and out inquiries are continuing. "We are working jointly with the football club to investigate the incident." Mr Parkin said he believed the arrest was the only one throughout the day in or around the iPro Stadium. He said: "Generally it has been a good-natured day with everyone behaving themselves apart from this one incident at full-time. "There were also two or three cars and a bus damaged in the East car park close to the ground." A spokesman for Derby County said: "Derby County are concerned at the encroachment of the playing area by a home supporter at the end of Saturday's game with Nottingham Forest. "The supporter was apprehended by stewards and subsequently arrested by Derbyshire Police. "The matter is now in the hands of the authorities and the club won't be making any further statement at this stage."
