JUST about every week seems to be a "big week" for Derby County Ladies and the last one and the next are no different.

The first team will be looking to secure the club's first piece of silverware this season when they defend the Derbyshire County Cup in the final against Sandiacre Town tomorrow at Belper Town FC's, Christchurch Meadow (2pm).

The final presents an excellent opportunity for fans to secure their weekly football fix with the men's side being in action at Middlesbrough and to experience the quality of women's football.

Manager John Bennett will be eager to put a disappointing 2-0 home reverse to Blackburn Rovers last weekend in the FA Women's Premier League behind him.

He will also be keen to secure the last trophy available to him before he steps down at the end of the season.

In terms of a successor, the club have now whittled the lengthy list of applicants down to a small handful , with second interviews having taken place earlier this week on the back of practical assessments at training the week before.

Subject to ratification by the club's executive committee, an announcement can be expected within the next few days.

Elsewhere, the club's under- 15s face what is basically a title decider when they entertain Wolverhampton Wanderers at Alvaston Park this morning (10.30am).

The two clubs have played 36 games between them this season and Wolves' defeat at Coventry is the only one either side have suffered – so something has to give.

Meanwhile, the table-topping under-12s moved a step closer to a league and cup double with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Mackworth St Francis in the semi- final of the Notts League Cup.

We already have half an eye on next season on a number of fronts and dates for the club's annual player trials have been fixed.

These will be at Mackworth College on June 21 ,25 and 28. Further details on the club website at www.dclfc.co.uk.
