JILTED John Whitbread - who has suffered a blow to his revised honeymoon plans - now has a new plan to find a holiday partner.
The 32-year-old had auctioned off his ex-fiancee's ticket to the Dominican Republic after she split up with him at Christmas ahead of their wedding.
He was told the holiday was non-refundable and the name on the ticket must be changed at least two weeks before the flight on February 16.
So he started an online auction to find a female companion to share the break with him, as well as raising some money for charity
However, after the auction closed on Friday with the highest bid at £8,000, he discovered the two top bidders were not genuine.
Having used up the two chances given by eBay to accept an offer, he had to decide on another option.
John, a pilot who grew up in Newhall, said: "It's surprising the amount of people who just bid to put the price up.
"I felt gutted when I realised it had failed because I have put a lot of work into it over the last two weeks and I felt like the joke was on me and people would be laughing at me.
"But people have been brilliant and so supportive."
With the help of a friend, John has now set up a website called www.jiltedjohn.com, which gives women a chance to buy a raffle ticket for £10. The winner, whose name will be picked out of a hat, will get to go on the holiday with him.
In the original eBay plan, Balls to Cancer, a testicular cancer charity, had stood to make £6,850 from the sale of the ticket, with £1,050 being used as spending money by John and his mystery companion on their two-week holiday.
Now, all the money raised by the raffle will go to the charity and John and his new companion will supply their own spending money.
