DERBY County came from behind again to beat nine-man Huddersfield Town 3-1 - and take another step towards clinching a Championship play-off place. The Rams fell behind to Nahki Wells' 14th-minute strike at the iPro Stadium but Johnny Russell equalised after 28 minutes. Huddersfield then had defender Joel Lynch sent off for a second bookable offence just before the break. Derby took the lead after 50 minutes when Craig Forsyth's cross was helped in by keeper Alex Smithies. And after visiting skipper Peter Clarke was dismissed for his second yellow card, Chris Martin converted the resulting penalty in the 57th minute. Derby started brightly and could have gone ahead in the third minute.Craig Bryson 's free kick was only cleared as far as Russell, whose well-struck volley was blocked by keeper Alex Smithies before Richard Keogh spooned the rebound over the bar from close range. Huddersfield felt they should have had a penalty in the 10th minute when Danny Ward and last man Jake Buxton tangled in the box but referee Darren Deadman waved play on. The visitors opened the scoring not long afterwards, Wells converting Ward's low cross from the right from inside the six-yard box. The Terriers were almost gifted a second goal after 21 minutes. Keogh's mis-hit backpass put Wells clean through but the Bermudian striker was denied by a brilliant one-handed save from the onrushing Lee Grant. At the other end, Patrick Bamford headed Russell's corner over the bar from eight yards. Derby were level, though, shortly before the half-hour mark. George Thorne split the Huddersfield defence with a perfectly timed through ball for Russell, who nipped in and beat Smithies with a deft first-time flick from 12 yards. Derby were unhappy with what they saw as time-wasting from Mark Robins' side and Lynch was booked for taking too long over as throw-in after 31 minutes. Grant was called into action again after 38 minutes, beating away Ward's drive before Wells fired the rebound across the face of goal from a tight angle. Huddersfield were reduced to 10 men in the 43rd minute, when Lynch went in late on Bamford and was shown a second yellow card. The Rams had a great chance to take the lead in the 45th minute. Thorne picked out Bamford unmarked in the box and the Chelsea loanee brought the ball down well, only to blaze a shot over from 12 yards out.

Derby did get their noses in front five minutes into the second half. Forsyth beat Jonathan Hogg on the left and delivered a hanging cross from the bye-line. Smithies failed to deal with it and the ball went in via the bar and the keeper. Five minutes later, Will Hughes released Bamford but Smithies partially redeemed himself with a fine save. Moments later, though, Hughes was upended in the area by centre-back Clarke. The Huddersfield captain had already been booked for a fifth-minute foul on the same player, so was given his marching orders. Martin made no mistake with the penalty, sending Smithies the wrong way for his 21st goal of the season. Rams boss Steve McClaren took the opportunity to give Jamie Ward a run-out on his return from injury, along with Jeff Hendrick and Lee Naylor. Derby were now firmly in control, though Adam Clayton fired narrowly wide from a rare Huddersfield attack. The hosts might have added to their lead late on by Smithies did well to keep out Ward's header and Russell's 25-yard piledriver in the closing stages.
