A DEFEAT for SkyBet Championship promotion hopefuls Burnley has seen their promotion plans put on hold.
The Clarets started brightly with Michael Kightly heading against the bar before Danny Graham and Jacob Butterfield went close for the visitors at Turf Moor.
Butterfield, though, coolly gave Boro the lead before Burnley's Jason Shackell had an effort was cleared off the line.
Burnley now need five points from their last four games to seal promotion.
Queens Park Rangers scored three goals in the last six minutes and remain two points behind Derby County after thrashing Nottingham Forest 5-2 at the City Ground.
The home side took the lead when Yossi Benayoun headed in after keeper Karl Darlow had parried Tom Carroll's shot.
Jamaal Lascelles headed Forest's equaliser but Junior Hoilett poked in a shot to restore the home side's lead.
Matt Derbyshire nodded in to again haul Forest level but late Nedum Onuoha, Ravel Morrison and Bobby Zamora strikes sealed QPR's win.
Brighton remain in the play-off places on goal difference after beating Charlton 3-0 while a 2-1 victory for Ipswich Town over Doncaster gives them hope, too.
At the other end of the table, Millwall took a valuable point a 2-2 draw with Watford while Yeovil drew 1-1 with Bournemouth.
