A HALF-BRICK was thrown at the windscreen of a woman's car as she was driving in Derby.
Chrissy Powell, of Brook Street, Heage, said no drivers stopped to help her after her windscreen was smashed on Good Friday at traffic lights in Bradshaw Way, in the city centre.
The 28-year-old has criticised police, saying they told her it was "just one of those things".
And she called for more security on the former Derbyshire Royal Infirmary site, off Bradshaw Way, where she believes the missile used in the incident came from.
She said: "I was stationary at traffic lights in my car at about 4.40pm, talking on the phone via my built-in Bluetooth system.
"I was travelling up Bradshaw way in the left-hand lane ready to turn into Osmaston Road.
"All of a sudden, half a brick was hurled at my windscreen on the driver's side, smashing it.
"The person on the other end of the phone heard the loud bang and thought I'd been in a crash.
"I was so shocked, and not one vehicle stopped to help me when the lights turned to green, so I pulled over after the traffic lights on Osmaston Road to telephone the police."
A police spokeswoman said the half-brick had not been mentioned during Miss Powell's phone call and that she noticed it in the road after she had hung up.
Miss Powell, who runs Heage security firm Castle Alarms, said it was "obvious" the brick had come from the DRI site as "it is littered with rubble".
She said: "Yes, there are health and safety signs warning people not to enter, but people are in there.
"My concern is that this could have been a lot worse. I was lucky it only smashed my windscreen, but imagine if it had smashed it while I was driving, causing me to swerve into the other lane.
"The former DRI site is disgusting – it's been allowed to become dilapidated and needs securing before someone is seriously hurt."
A police spokeswoman maintained that Miss Powell reported that her car windscreen had been smashed, but she did not know by what or whom.
The spokeswoman said: "We searched the area, checked the old DRI site, and there was no sign of any debris, no sign that anything had fallen from a building and no sign of any people.
"We've advised her that, if there is CCTV of anyone doing this in a similar location, she will be contacted by an officer.
"If not, it will be filed pending any other information becoming available."
The former DRI site is to be redeveloped to include 400 homes and a supermarket.
Developer UK Regeneration has denied being responsible for site security.
