PROSPECTS of play were pretty bleak for Derbyshire County Cricket Club on the opening day of their LV County Championship match against Worcestershire.
Heavy overnight rain had left the outfield at New Road very wet and it was all the groundsmen could do to get the water off the covers.
The umpires inspected at 11am and it was immediately decided that lunch would be taken at 1pm, with plans to have a further look after then.
However, they walked back to the pavilion in steady drizzle and there was little sign of an improvement in the weather.
