DERBYSHIRE County Cricket Club'ssurvival bid never got going as they were beaten by an innings and 64 runs on the final day of their LV County Championship match against Worcestershire at New Road.
After Worcestershire had declared overnight at 432-9, a lead of 213, batting out the whole of the day for a draw was the height of Derbyshire's ambition but they were bowled out for 149 in 57 overs before tea.
Only Wayne Madsen provided any resistance as he followed his first innings unbeaten 111 with 56 before he was eighth man out in what was, by then, a hopeless position.
Derbyshire needed to burst the Worcestershire bubble early on, following the previous evening's battering, but they lost a wicket in only the fourth over when Stephen Moore pushed at a Gareth Andrew ball and was caught at first slip for four at 11-1.
Both openers had gone in the 12th over, when Billy Godleman was lbw to Charlie Morris for nine at 23-2 and Morris struck again in his next over to have Shivnarine Chanderpaul caught at first slip for four to make it 29-3.
Madsen and Chesney Hughes survived the initial storm then but, to the penultimate ball before the break, Hughes edged to slip off Saeed Ajmal for 12 and Derbyshire were in big trouble.
Wes Durston made a positive start to reach 21 but then got a ball from Ajmal that leapt and took the edge on its way to slip. There was little he could do about that and Derbyshire were 93-5.
Dan Hodgson was lbw for one to an Ajmal ball that shot through at ankle height and David Wainwright was run out attempting a second to Ross Whiteley at deep backward point.
When Madsen was lbw to Ajmal, having faced 139 balls and hit eight fours, the game was up.
Jack Shantry wrapped it up, with Tim Groenewald lbw for nought and Mark Footitt bowled for four.
