INDIAN Test batsman Cheteshwar Pujara is to join Derbyshire  for their LV County Championship run-in.

However, he is likely to be available to play in only three of the county's remaining four four-day games.

Back in India after the end of the Test series against England, Pujara is expected to return to England when paperwork for the deal has been completed.

Pujara has played 24 Test matches for India, scoring 1,872 runs at an average of 49.26 with a highest score of 206. The 26-year-old has a first-class average of 58, hitting 8,077 runs in 98 matches with a top score of 352.

In July, he scored 81 in the Indian tourist match against Derbyshire at The 3aaa County Ground.

The county's elite performance director, Graeme Welch said: "We're an ambitious team and have an exciting group of players who are developing fast.

"Pujara joining us at this stage of the season is a real boost for the lads and the remaining Championship matches we have ahead of us will give him exactly the experience he is looking for.
"With Shiv (Chanderpaul) now back in the West Indies preparing for Test match action and Marcus North focusing on our one-day campaign, Pujara will bring an added dimension to the side as we look to finish our Championship season strongly."

Derbyshire hope the signing will appeal to the Indian supporters in the city. Chief executive, Simon Storey said: "We've been focused on delivering a long-term legacy from the visit of the Indian tourist side to Derby in July, including the creation of our Cricket Derbyshire India Club.

"We hope the opportunity to see Pujara play county cricket for Derbyshire will inspire cricket followers across the city and the wider county and open up the club to a new generation of fans."

The three games Pujara is expected to be available for are away to Glamorgan (September 9-12), away to Surrey (September 15-18) and at home to Leicestershire (September 23-26).

Volunteers from Derby assist dramatic rescue of climber who fell from a cliff in Matlock Bath

VOLUNTEERS from Derby Mountain Rescue had to help find a climber who fell 25ft from a cliff in Derbyshire. Members of the team were joined by RAF sea rescue, the ambulance service, firefighters and police as they tried to get the the 42-year-old man after he fell from High Tor, in Matlock Bath. The teams were called to the incident at 3.30pm yesterday after a 999 call was received. The man, who is from Sheffield had been climbing High Tor with his partner. Kevin Corcoran, from Derby Mountain Rescue said: "Due to the inaccessible nature of the base of High Tor, the casualty first had to be located. "Members of the rope rescue unit abseiled from the top of High Tor to find the climber, who had landed at the foot of the cliff face. "When he was located, it was decided that the skills of mountain rescue would also be required and the team were alerted." Mr Corcoran added: "While initial treatment was being provided by paramedics, mountain rescue members transported a stretcher and some specialist equipment along a narrow and difficult track to the scene. "Team members then protected the casualty with a full body splint and transferred him to the specialist stretcher, capable of being lowered by ropes or winched into a helicopter. "The difficulty of the path back to the road meant carrying the stretcher out would take a considerable amount of time and require rope protection at key stages. "Therefore, an RAF Sea King helicopter had also been called from RAF Leconfield with the hope of being able to winch the casualty from the ground." Mr Corcoran said whilst en route, the aircraft had to be diverted to another incident in North Wales, before heading back to Matlock Bath, arriving at just after 6pm. He said: "Due to the amount of tall trees by the foot of the cliff and the complete lack of any open spaces from which to winch the stretcher, the helicopter had a difficult job in lowering the winchman and had to resort to hovering over the edge of the cliff so he could walk down the cliff face whilst being lowered. "The paramedic treating the casualty was then winched into the aircraft followed by the casualty, who was then flown to Queen's Medical Centre for further treatments. "It was a difficult rescue, requiring the talents of a number of different agencies, but it was gratifying to see how well all services were able to work seamlessly together to carry out an effective rescue. "The RAF crew deserve special mention as they only had a narrow gap of about six feet between the cliff and the trees to lower their winchman and raise the casualty, which took some superb flying." A police spokesman said the climber suffered a suspected broken ankle in the fall.

Derby County thrash Fulham 5-1

DERBY County piled more misery on Fulham by thrashing them 5-1 at the iPro Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Rams made it seven points from a possible 12 in the Championship so far with an emphatic victory.
Meanwhile, it is now four defeat out of four for Fulham following their relegation from the Premier League.
Jamie Ward's 23rd-minute strike put Steve McClaren's men ahead at the break but former England international Scott Parker levelled for the Cottagers early in the second half.
Derby responded in style, though, and goals from Craig Bryson, Chris Martin (2) and Simon Dawkins saw the hosts coast home.
The Rams had the better of the opening period and might have scored inside three minutes.
Ward and Cyrus Christie combined on the right and the latter crossed to the back post, where the unmarked Johnny Russell smashed a volley narrowly over the bar.
A couple of minutes later, Parker found Cauley Woodrow in space and he advanced to the edge of the area before drilling a low shot wide.
A deflected Kostas Stafylidis cross in the 12th minute proved awkward but Lee Grant gratefully collected the ball, via a touch from Richard Keogh.
At the other end, Christie's ball in from the right was cleared straight back to him and his left-foot curler was straight at keeper Jesse Joronen.
Bryson's cross from the left was heading for Martin in the middle but Tim Hoogland made a crucial intervention to turn the ball behind.
But Derby made the breakthrough midway through the half.
Following a throw on the right, Christie found Russell, who bent in a left-foot cross to the near post, where Ward ghosted in to help a volley past Joronen from eight yards out.
Moments after the restart, Russell tested Joronen from distance but Derby were unable to add to their lead.
The closest Fulham came to an equaliser was in the 37th minute, when big-money summer signing Ross McCormack tried an audacious lob from inside his own half.
It was heading for the top corner but Grant was alert and retreated to his line to keep it out.
Derby went looking for a second goal after the interval.
Keogh headed Ward's cross over the bar, before Russell blazed too high from an angle after being picked out by Jeff Hendrick.
The Rams were stunned by an equaliser in the 54th minute, though.
McCormack's free kick hit the wall but he pounced on the loose ball and crossed for Tim Hoogland. He laid off to Parker, who beat Grant with a low first-time shot from 15 yards.
This stung Derby back into life and they almost regained the lead within two minutes.
Hendrick's cross from the right evaded Bryson and the keeper but Martin, at full stretch, could not keep the ball down in front of an unguarded net.
McCormack tested Grant again from distance - before Derby went up the other end and scored in the 61st minute.
Another Hendrick's cross from the right found Russell beyond the far post and he unselfishly centred on the full for Bryson, who volleyed past Joronen from 12 yards.
The celebrations had barely died down when the home side added a third.
Martin collected a ball to feet from Christie, turned and held off his man inside the area and fired a low left-foot shot into the bottom corner.
Martin could have had another but headed just wide from Ward's ball in.
But Derby were not done - and finished the game with two late goals.
First, Will Hughes split the defence to release fellow sub Dawkins and though his shot came back off a post, Martin was there to convert the rebound.

Then, straight from the restart, Derby won possession and, once more, Hughes played in Dawkins, who drilled a low angled shot in off the post.

Fulham boss plans to make changes following thrashing at Derby County

FULHAM boss Felix Magath says he plans to add to his squad following the 5-1 thrashing by Derby County.
The Cottagers are bottom of the Championship, having lost all four of their league fixtures following relegation from the Premier League.
Magath fielded a largely young and inexperienced side at the iPro Stadium but they were blown away by the Rams.
"That was the worst performance but the good thing about today is that it is clear we have to change something," said the German, who insisted he is the right man to take Fulham back to the top flight.
"The result was very bad and so now is the time to change.
"A few minutes after the game is not the time to talk about what we will change but, for sure, there will be new players in.
"I am convinced the quality of the players is very good but we are not getting a real team at the moment, because of the losses.
"We have not enough confidence to show what we are able to do. I have to react and bring some players in.
"I am not satisfied with the situation. Derby are one of the favourites for this season and you can lose against such a good team but not in this manner."

Fulham 'hiding' had been coming, says Derby County forward Jamie Ward

JAMIE Ward felt the "hiding" handed out to Fulham by Derby County had been coming.
The Rams thrashed the Cottagers 5-1 at the iPro Stadium on Saturday.
Steve McClaren's men got back to winning ways following a 3-2 defeat at Charlton and a goalless draw at Sheffield Wednesday.
"We're delighted," said Ward. "We had to bounce back from the defeat against Charlton and we've done it in style.
"We've been creating chances - we've just not been taken them. Against Fulham, we took our chances.
"We always said it was only a matter of time before someone got a good hiding from us - and that's what Fulham have had."
Ward opened the scoring with his third goal in two games after 23 minutes, ghosting in at the near post to meet Johnny Russell's cross from the right and guiding a volley past Fulham keeper Jesse Joronen.
"When Johnny picked the ball up, I just thought about the cross he played in against Carlisle (for Derby's second goal, scored by Chris Martin)," he said.
"So I tried to get into the middle of the goal or the near post and, luckily enough, it came to me.
"I watched it all the way onto my foot and just helped it into the net."
Former England international Scott Parker levelled for Fulham in the 54th minute but Derby hit back with quickfire strikes from Craig Bryson and Chris Martin.
Martin struck again late on and, straight from the restart, substitute Simon Dawkins completed the rout.
"I think we got too comfortable," said Ward.
"Then they equalised and we realised we need to go and get another goal.
"Luckily enough, we got two in a few minutes and it absolutely killed them.
"It was good to know we'd won the game so early, so we could relax and then we got another two."

THE family of a nine-year-old boy who died after falling in a weir have spoken of the loss of their "little ray of sunshine".

Kai Lambe, of Heath Way, Hatton, died at Queen's Hospital, in Burton, after being taken there by ambulance from the scene of the tragic accident.

Emergency services were called to the weir, at Tutbury Mill, on the River Dove, at 6.15pm on Friday, after receiving a report that a boy had slipped into the water and got into difficulty.

In a statement released to the media, his family said: "We are heartbroken and devastated at the loss of our vibrant, happy, bubbly little man, Kai Joseph - who was known as 'Ginge' to all who knew him.

"He was our ray of sunshine who brightened up the darkest day.

"We, as a family, are overwhelmed with the support of everyone in the close-knit village of Hatton and from people afar.

"He was always out and about, whether it was fishing, taking his beloved dogs for a walk with his dad or just in the village.

"He would smile and put his thumb up to everyone."

"He was a much-loved son of Dawn and Ali, little brother of Ellie-May and Tom, grandson, uncle, nephew, cousin and loved by many.

"RIP wee man."

Police confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances behind Kai's death and a file is being prepared for the Coroner.

This afternoon police appealed for the public's help in identfying three children who were at the weir and tried to help when the tragedy happened. A Staffordshire police spokesman said: "These children, not known to Kai or his friends and not from Hatton, tried to help and may have witnessed something that will help detectives establish the exact circumstances of what happened. "They may be from the Tutbury area. Unfortunately there is not a description of the three children at this time." "Detectives would also be keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident who may have been walking through Tutbury by the river around that time." Anyone with any information is asked to call DC Katie Sigley at Staffordshire Police on 101.

MANY people across Derbyshire and the rest of the world have been taking on the ice bucket challenge for progressive neurodegenerative disease ALS. But a charity in India has now decided to ask people to take on the rice bucket challenge instead, according to a national newspaper. It sounds at first like somebody might have misheard the title of the popular ice bucket challenge but the Metro said journalist Manju Latha Kalanidihi came up with the idea to capitalise on the worldwide popularity the for ALS fund-raiser. It said, like the ice bucket challenge, the rice version involves posting on social media and challenging others to get involved. But, unlike the ice bucket challenge, the newspaper said it doesn't involve pouring a bucket of rice over your head - but instead cooking or buying a bucket of rice and donate it to the poor of India. What do you think of the rice bucket challenge? Have your say in our comments box, below
