BURTON Albion will take a 1-0 lead into the second leg of their League Two play-off semi-final against Southend United. The Brewers secured a narrow advantage in Sunday's first leg at the Pirelli Stadium. Adam McGurk got the goal just before half-time, with a deft finish after combining neatly with Billy Kee. The Brewers were reduced to 10 men on the hour when defender Ian Sharps was sent off for a second bookable offence. But Southend, managed by former Derby County boss Phil Brown, could not take advantage of the extra man.

A 12-YEAR-OLD girl is in a stable condition after being airlifted to hospital with potentially life-changing injuries after she was hit by a car. The incident happened in Blagreaves Lane, Littleover, at about 3.15pm yesterday. Police blocked the road after the female pedestrian was in collision with a car which was travelling towards Stenson Road. A police spokesman confirmed her condition as stable this morning. People living nearby were left in shock at the incident yesterday. Marion Keeling, of Heather Crescent, Littleover, said: "I did not see what happened but went over to see what I could do. "I have done basic first-aid so I offered to help. "Someone had called an ambulance which came here really quickly. "I tried to talk to the girl but she was unconscious. "I hope and pray she will be alright." Kevin Glynn, of Gayton Avenue, Littleover, noticed the air ambulance arrive. The 47-year-old said: "I noticed them flying over a field so I went to the scene to see what had happened. "The road was shut and people were out of their houses. "What has happened is very worrying and concerning." Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to contact Derbyshire Police on 101.

DERBY City Council has confirmed it had received a complaint about the integrity of this month's upcoming elections.

Allegations of electoral fraud were made but the Labour-led authority said no evidence was found to back up the claims.

Returning officer Janie Berry said: "A meeting was held following receipt of a complaint but no information was forthcoming to substantiate electoral fraud."

Last year, four Derby women were found guilty of vote rigging.

Championship playoff: Rams fans should get ready for rain, says Met Office

RAMS fans should expect showers at the game against Brighton this afternoon, the Met Office has said - but the rain could be a good omen. Meteorologist Emma Sharples said a blustery wind was likely to mean the rain would come in short bursts. She said: "There will be some bright and sunny spells in between. "But I wouldn't be surprised if fans heard the odd rumble of thunder as well." One fan said on Twitter that he felt the bad weather might be a good omen, citing when the Rams beat Southampton on penalties to get to 2007's play-off final. The man, under the handle, Tony said: "The weather could be a good omen as it lashed it down v Southampton in 2007."

RAMS fans are roaring their support outside of the iPro Stadium in advance of today's championship play-off against Brighton. The atmosphere is electric - with most saying they are confident Derby will win the match, taking them to the final at Wembley. Derby County players are in the ground and beginning their preparations for today's game with Brighton about to arrive. They include Jamie Ward who had to dash through the rain to get to the player's lounge.
Paul Tuit,11, has travelled from Dublin this morning especially to watch the match and got to meet Johnny Russell outside of the players lounge. He said: "My favourite player is Conor Sammon. My brother Jack plays for Derby County under 18s so we are big fans. "I think today's score will be 3-1 to Derby." Andrea Elton, 41, of Ilkeston, has come to the match alongside her daughter Roseena. She said: "I don't want to predict what the score will be, I don't want to jinx it. I will be happy with a 0-0, as long as we get to Wembley. "My son was only four years old when Derby got to Wembley last time. It would be amazing if we got to go again." Another Rams fan Richard Powell, 45, of Burton, said he was geared up for the match. He had brought his two daughters Olivia, 12, and Aimee, 10 - who are big Will hughes fans - to the match. Richard said: "I think today's match will be 2-0 to Derby. "It would be fantastic to see Derby win today's match and get us to Wembley. We have had a recession since we were last there. I think we can do it." Father and son, Glenn and Alan Ford, of Spondon, are also big Derby County fans. Speaking before the match, Glenn, 67 - who has been a Rams fan since 1953 - said: "It does not matter what today's score is. "As long as we win, that is all that matters. "Getting to Wembley would be wonderful." Glenn's son, Alan, 48, said he had been a Rams fan since 1974. He added: "To see Derby County at Wembley would be fantastic. I really hope we win."

Team news: Derby County player of the year Craig Bryson out of Championship play-off semi-final second leg against Brighton

PLAYER of the year Craig Bryson will miss Derby County's Championship play-off semi-final second leg against Brighton & Hove Albion due to injury. Bryson, who has scored 16 goals from midfield this season, limped off in the dying moments of Thursday's first leg with a back problem and the Scotland international has failed a late fitness test. That means Will Hughes is recalled to the Rams' starting line-up at the iPro Stadium (5.15pm) in the only change to Steve McClaren's team, who lead the tie 2-1. Hughes' place on the bench is taken by defender Lee Naylor. "It is a blow to have Craig Bryson unavailable because we know the qualities that he has and what he can bring to the side but on the flip-side of it, we know what Will Hughes can bring to the team as well," said Rams coach Paul Simpson. "It's disappointing for Bryso but what a lift it is for Will. "We're pleased that he managed to play 90 minutes at Leeds United last weekend to prepare him for today. "Bryso was close to starting. He had a fitness test this morning and things looked positive but when he went home for some lunch his back stiffened up straight away. "We can't afford to take any risks because this is a massive game for us and we need players available that we believe can last the 90 minutes. "Injuries are part and parcel of football and we just have to deal with it - we are all looking forward to seeing Will play today." Simpson added: "We're 2-1 up but there is a long, long way to go. "The iPro Stadium is going to be bouncing today and we can't wait. "We have given ourselves a chance and we need to start on the front foot. "I am sure the fans will play their part as well. "It is an exciting time and we're all looking forward to the game getting underway." Brighton boss Oscar Garcia makes two changes to his side, with Lewis Dunk replacing the injured Matthew Upson (ankle( and Rohan Ince preferred to Jake Forster-Caskey in midfield. DERBY COUNTY: Grant, Wisdom, Keogh, Buxton, Forsyth, Thorne, Hendrick, Hughes, J Ward, Russell, Martin. Subs: Legzdins (gk), Naylor, Whitbread, Eustace, Dawkins, Bamford, Sammon. Subs: Brezovan (gk), Chicksen, March, LuaLua, Forster-Caskey, Agustien, Mackail-Smith. REFEREE: C Pawson (South Yorkshire).

Derby County fans were optimistic that the Rams would be going to Wembley after the first half of the match ended 1-0. Kevin Wright, 48, who originally is from South Normanton, has travelled from Australia to see the Rams in the playoffs. He said: "I saw Brighton play away and I will be going to Wembley. I know we can get there. "We are doing very well. The conditions are not great today, what with the rain." Kevin is at the match with his nine-year-old daughter Danielle and his father Hedley. Hedley Wright, 75, said he had been a Rams fan since 1977. He said: "We are playing very well and we will be going to Wembley." The iPro Stadium exploded with delight after the first goal of the game from Will Hughes. Fans waved their black and white scarfs and flags as he celebrated. And the midfielder's goal was well received on Twitter too. Brandon said "What a finish!" and Yvonne Gorman said "GGGGOOOOAAAAALLLL! What's just happened to me? I actually punched the air." Before kick-off fans in the stadium were giving their views on the game. Matthew Barron, 13, said he predicted a 2-0 win. He travelled from Hinckley, Leicestershire, with his dad Dominic, 46 to the match as well as his grandad Tony and grandmother Iris, 70. The teenager, who is a goalkeeper for Bradford City under-13s said his favourite player was Rams goalkeeper Lee Grant. He said: "I reckon we will win today. It would be brilliant to get to Wembley." Matthew's grandad Tony Barron, 70, of Spondon said he had been a rams fan since the age of four. He said: "I remember going to see Derby play at the old baseball ground when I was four. "I really hope they win today but the way they have been playing I think it will go to extra time and penalties." Fans Nigel and Michael Rea have travelled all the way from West Sussex for the game. Nigel, 52, said: "My dad lived in Chellaston before he died and he was a big rams fan. The legacy now lives on with me and his grandson. "All my family are from Derby. We have been Rams fans forever. "I am confident that we will the second-leg against Brighton. We can't play any worse than we did the other day. "I think today's score will be 2-0 but Michael thinks it will be 1-1." For 49-year-old Lisa Howard, of Oakwood, today is a huge day. The dedicated Rams fan said she had been to every match this season - whether it be home or away. She said: "I have been a Rams fan for 15 years now. I have supported them since I was four-years-old. "We deserve to go to Wembley. It would be unbelievable to get there. "I am so proud of the lads for how they have played this season. "I think today's score will be 3-1 but Brighton will score first, getting all of our nerves going." Lisa said player Johnny Russell had really shone for her this season. She said: "He has come on so much under Steve McClaren. "He has been Mr Reliable 100% this season. He has been so committed."

Half-time: Derby County extend lead over Brighton in Championship play-off semi-final

DERBY County lead Brighton 1-0 - and 3-1 on aggregate - at half-time in their Championship play-off semi-final second leg at the iPro Stadium. Will Hughes, in for the injured Craig Bryson, scored after 34 minutes to send the Rams a step closer to Wembley. Derby made a steady start as they looked to maintain the lead they held from Thursday's first leg on the south coast. And Steve McClaren's men had the better of the early exchanges. After 17 minutes, Hughes, Chris Martin and Jeff Hendrick combined to find Andre Wisdom on the right and the full-back cut inside before forcing Tomasz Kuszczak into a low save from 20 yards. Six minutes later, Martin and Jamie Ward linked up to feed the advancing Craig Forsyth, whose first-time shot from the edge of the box brushed the side-netting. Derby took the lead when Ward, on the left, laid back to Forsyth and his low cross was turned in neatly by England Under-21 international Hughes from 12 yards out. It could have been two, in bizarre style, after 42 minutes, when Ward charged down Kuszczak's kick from a backpass and the ball looped narrowly over the bar. Brighton's best chance of the half came in the 44th minute. Rohan Ince's neat chip into the area found Leo Ulloa, who controlled the ball before seeing his shot from eight yards blocked well by Lee Grant.
